Today I've got some exciting news to announce and talk about after we went through today's content patch! There's lots of things to go through, so let's get right to it! Here's the new playable character that has been teased at in the last update and like I said back then: This is a really interesting one!

This character brings a slew of new game mechanics additions / tweaks with her, since she has some more complicated than usual special abilities! First of all, you might've noticed her huge HP pool, the highest out of every character (even outranking Freddy). As mentioned in the description, if SPHINX ever loses a fight she will instantly be out of the game, unlike other characters who can only experience a game over when they're bankrupt. With an attack stat of 3, the highest in the game, even outranking Nexa and Mickey, she is an outstanding fighter who will cause tremendous damage against whoever she's fighting against. However, her defensive and evasive abilities are way worse of those than Nexa for example, so she will easily be taking damage.

She can quickly destroy even the most upgraded estates thanks to her huge damage buff she gets and she will also make short work of guards if she needs to.

You might remember when Fujijo was revealed that I said that I would be implementing Trap Cards in the future. Well, with SPHINX the time has come, as she will gain a Booby Trap Card whenever she visits her home.

These traps can be placed anywhere on the map, except for on tiles where a trap is already present. Right now, traps can be spotted by the bomb icons on the board, though I might include some traps in the future which are invisible.

With all of these abilities and stats you can basically think of SPHINX as a Boss character which should be taken out as soon as possible or else she'll wreak havoc. In fact, a new gameplay mechanic I've added makes her automatically hated by every AI character and most of them will try to stop her when they can (even Leonora will once she has been provoked once). Once players manage to K.O. her, peace can be restored and business can be continued as usual. > : 3

Also, a quick note: We now have so many playable characters that they all don't fit on the select screen! ( ̄▽ ̄)

Anyway, that's all for this patch's content, on to some more news: I'm happy to announce that I'm currently working on the second expansion to SYS! It will fittingly be spooky themed considering we are not too far away from Halloween. The expansion will be called "Dark Essence" and will contain 2 new gameplay mechanics, one of which I'd like to show some stuffs about today!

Considering that in the last expansion (Fight Night) you could spend big amounts of your cash, I thought that this time I'd like to implement a mechanic which allows you to use your Zentra stones for something. With the Dark Essence addon enabled, one randomly chosen "4SALE" Tile on the map will at the start of the match be replaced by a special tile, a spooky house. :O

This house belongs to Londyn! Anyone remember her? She was the girl in the SYS Comix who was fascinated with Dark Magic! The "OPEN" sign on the tile tells you that you can visit her and when you land on her tile, you can go there just like you'd enter any other normal shop but instead you'll be greeted with this:

This screen allows you to spend your Zentra stones on a curse which you can place on other players! Or better said, Londyn will. The more Zentra you'll spend, the more bad things will happen to your victim. Let's do a quick rundown of what each section in this screen means. SPELL TYPE: Let's you chose between light, bad and evil spells. The more sinister spell type you chose, the heavier the consequences for Londyn's victim will be but it will also cost more Zentra.

CASTING TIME: Let's you chose when the spell will be cast. The quicker you want the curse to happen, the more you'll have to pay. Also, do note that whatever you chose, there will randomly be some turns added or subtracted before activation, so you will never know for certain when the actual spell will be cast.

TARGET: Should be pretty self explanatory. "ANYONE" means the curse could hit anyone, even you! Only chose this if you absolutely need to save some Zentra. "ANYONE BUT ME" will target anyone but you (even allies). "ENEMIES" will make sure that Londyn will target someone who isn't on your team and "SPECIFIC CHARACTER" let's you chose exactly who will get hit, but this will cost you a lot of stones.

Once you make the deal, Londyn will get to work and her sign in front of her house will change to "CLOSED". There can only be one single spell being casted at any given time, so if someone is already using Londyn's services you will need to wait your turn. Also worth mentioning: There are different types of curses for all 3 Spell Types, so you will never know by what exactly your victim will get hit with which adds some suspension to this whole gameplay mechanic. > : 3

So, that's all I can disclose for now! Like I mentioned before, I'd like to add a second gameplay mechanic to this spooky themed expansion, but more on that at a later time! Before I go, here the next sneak peek at the next character!

That's all for this update! For a complete overview of everything this patch does please refer to the changelog down below.

  • Added "SPHINX" as new playable character.
  • Added Trapcard System to the game, now cards can be created and used on the board for other players to step onto.
  • Added default AI relationship modifiers for custom characters. The AI will never like / hate a character less than these values indicate.
  • Added the demolition ability for custom characters to inflict additional damage when performing estate attacks.
  • Added the Single Life Condition for custom characters, if they get K.O.'d one single time in a battle it will be game over for them.
  • Fixed a bug in which Freddy's Deathtrap would sometimes not play an activation sound.
  • Fixed a bug in which the stats screen would sometimes count an additional "Used Cards" by the AI when they didn't have enough Zentra to actually use them.

I hope you'll have fun with the game!
Please stay tuned for further updates in the future! ('ᴗ')

Regards,
Snooley
